Sheaffer PFM III fountain pen in burgundy c1960 Stock No 2266
Sheaffer PFM III fountain pen in burgundy c1960 Stock No 2266

The PFM ("Pen For Men") model range was introduced in 1959 with the same filling system as the famous "snorkel" pens.  There were 5 variants, the PFM III having a plastic barrel, plastic cap with a broad cap band and was fitted with a 14ct gold inset nib.  The cap band and clip were gold plated and the clip bears the "white dot" symbol of quality.  This handsome Sheaffer PFM III fountain pen is in excellent condition, with no significant marks or blemishes at all.

The "snorkel" filling system is unique - a clean-filling pen, where a tiny tube is extended under the nib to fill the pen, thus avoiding the need to dip the whole nib in the bottle.  The snorkel filler on this pen has been serviced and is in excellent working order.

The PFM III has a 14ct gold inset nib, matching the gold plated trim.  These nibs were first introduced on the Sheaffer Imperial pens in the early 1950s and have been used ever since - for instance on the current "Valor" and "Legacy" models.  Their quality and performance is well known.  This nib has the imprint "SheafferS 14k Aust.".  Note that this nib has an extra-fine tip.  Like broad nibs, these don't suit everyone - extra fine is best suited to smallish handwriting and smooth paper.

The pen has been freshly serviced and is a very practical choice for an everyday writer.  It is also of course highly collectable.
