This is a limited edition pen from the Sheaffer "Legacy
Heritage" range of models, which are made to resemble the Imperial and PFM
models of the 1950s and '60s. This "Roaring Twenties" model is a
really stunning pen made from solid sterling silver and deeply engraved with
images from the 1920s, depicting the history of the Sheaffer company as well as
more general scenes from that period. The images are arranged in the form
of a mural, beginning on the cap and continuing on the barrel and are described
in detail in an accompanying book. Very briefly, the images are:
-
Walter A Sheaffer, founder of the Sheaffer company
-
1920s immigrants from Europe looking at the Statue of
Liberty
-
An "airplane", recalling Charles Lindbergh's epic
transatlantic flight of 1927
-
A filmstrip, indicating the start of the "Golden
Age" of cinema
-
The Sheaffer building in Fort Madison, Iowa:

-
The word "JAZZ" - the Roaring Twenties also being
known as the "Jazz Age"
-
A "flapper" dressed in the typical style of the
(well to do) '20s
-
A baseball player - the '20s being a period when sports
enjoyed a great surge in popularity
-
The Chrysler building, an icon of Art Deco architecture
-
Finally a stock "ticker" - an image of the stock
market crash of 1929 which brought this decade to a close.
The cap and barrel also bear the silver hallmarks and the purity
(925) as well as the Sheaffer name, deeply engraved on the barrel:

As mentioned above, this is a limited edition pen, from a series
of 1108 and a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the General Manager of
Sheaffers is included:

This is a handsome pen and comes with a presentation box to
match:

Also included is a bottle of ink, some ink cartridges and a
fascinating book about the 1920s, Sheaffer's history and the images on the pen:

This pen would make a very special gift on a special occasion
and would be a wonderful object to own.
