Parker Vacumatic Major fountain pen 1938 in Silver Pearl Stock No 1390
Parker Vacumatic Major fountain pen 1938 in Silver Pearl Stock No 1390

This Parker Vacumatic Major fountain pen is in excellent condition.  There are no marks, scratches etc. on the plastic parts and the rhodium plated clip, tassies and cap band are showing no signs of wear.  This is a beautiful pen with an excellent appearance.

These handsome pens are built up from alternating layers of translucent and pearlescent plastic - in this case, the "silver pearl" variety.  The barrel has a clear imprint reading "Geo S Parker PARKER VACUMATIC Made In USA 8" - the "8" is the date code for 1938.

This is a "double jewel" pen with a tassie each end, decorated with a patterned jewel matching the finish of the pen.  These patterned jewels are very attractive and pretty scarce these days.

The extra-fine 14ct gold nib nib is stamped " Parker USA 9", and writes smoothly.  This is a very attractive nib, over-plated with silver, but with the Parker arrow in plain gold in the middle.

This pen has a vacumatic filler, a fairly complex system using a diaphragm pump, operated by the plunger on the end of the barrel.  This pen has the aluminium "speedline" filler.

This pen has been fully serviced and fitted with a new diaphragm.  It is perfectly serviceable and would make a very attractive writer as well as being highly collectable.
