The Parker Challenger model was first introduced in 1935 as an
economy, or school, pen, although by 1939 De Luxe and Royal De Luxe versions had been
introduced. This pen, finished in Rose Marble, is later, as it has a single
broad cap ring, and a straight cap clip. The clip, which shows the slightest
traces of pitting of the plating to the side, is retained by a peaked black
stud, which matches the blind cap. This is a button filler with a brass
button hidden under the "blind cap" on the end of the pen barrel.
The button operates a sprung pressure bar inside the pen, which compresses the
rubber ink sac. This has the advantage of filling the pen by a single
press of the button. The ink sac has been replaced.
The imprint on the barrel is clear, and you can read it yourself
in the photograph. It reads: "PARKER CHALLENGER MADE IN
U.S.A. .9. BY PARKER PEN CO.
JANESVILLE,WIS".
The pen is fitted with a fine Parker nib, stamped "PARKER
PEN MADE IN U.S.A. 47.".The pen is in lovely condition and
writes smoothly.
