This very handsome Pelikan pen has a glossy black cap with a double cap band and a green striated barrel, also with two gold bands. This is quite a big, chunky pen, with a reputation for toughness and durability. The italic pen is a new model for Pelikan.
The Souverän 800, more often known as the "M 800" is a traditional piston-filler, it is not a cartridge pen and must be filled from a bottle. The advantage of this is a large ink capacity compared to most modern pens. The filling mechanism is operated by twisting the black knob on the end of the barrel. Note that unlike the cheaper models, the M800 has a metal internal mechanism for greater reliability.
The nib is extremely attractive in itself and is made from solid 18ct gold, over-plated with rhodium, giving the two-colour effect. It bears the Pelikan logo and the imprint "18c - 750". It has a broad italic point. Italic nibs used to be commonly available from most manufacturers, but in recent years they had to be specially made by specialist nib grinders. Pelikan have now re-introduced a broad italic nib. This produces a broad down-stroke rather broader than a normal broad nib, but with a much finer side to side stroke. This produces a highly decorative italic script and is a pleasure to write with.
The superb writing performance of these pens is almost legendary and they have a reputation for dependability. This pen carries the usual manufacturer's warranty.
