This very handsome Pelikan pen is finished in probably the most iconic Pelikan combination of a black cap, striated green barrel and gold plated trim. It is a super quality pen and a pleasure to own and use.

The Souverän 400, more often known as the "M 400" is a traditional piston-filler, it is not a cartridge pen and must be filled from a bottle. The advantage of this is a large ink capacity compared to most modern pens. The filling mechanism is operated by twisting the black knob on the end of the barrel. Note that this pen is virtually identical to the M 600, just a few mm shorter, making it more comfortable for smaller hands.

The nib is extremely attractive in itself and is made from solid 14ct gold, over-plated with rhodium, giving the two-colour effect. It bears the Pelikan logo and the imprint "14c - 585". It has a medium point.
