The pencil appears to be unused. The eraser, accessed by pulling apart the two halves of the barrel also appears unused. More telling though is that, as can be seen from the photograph, this pencil still has the original manufacturer's' 'chalk marking' price - reading "£2..12s.6D Inc.P.T.". In modern parlance that is £2.62½, including Purchase Tax (abolished in the early 1970s and replaced by VAT). Although the grip appears a little grubby. I've avoided anything but the slightest cleaning to avoid damage to the chalk mark. These were made to be readily removable when sold.
