This is a fine example of the ever popular Sheaffer Imperial pen. The Imperial came in a large variety of finishes and this one has a black barrel with a gold plated cap with a pattern of fluted lines. The cap is stamped "GOLD ELECTROPLATED  SHEAFFER U.S.A.". The Sheaffer clip bears the "White Spot" symbol of quality.

The pen has a cartridge/converter filler, the converter simply pulling out to allow standard Sheaffer ink cartridges to be used if desired.

The fine side of medium 14ct gold nib nib is stamped " Sheaffer® 585 14K", and of course writes smoothly. This is a very attractive inset nib with a high polish.
